Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A.

Tytuł zastępczy

Bogdanka has been developing for over 35 years. The Company was established in 1982. That year, in late November, the first longwall was launched in Bogdanka. At 700 m long and with a yield of less than 800 tonnes a day, it was quite modest by today’s standards. Currently, we are the most modern and one of the largest hard coal mines in Poland with production levels surpassing 9 million tonnes a year. We supply coal mainly to industrial customers based in the eastern and north-eastern Poland. The sale is based predominantly on long term contracts. Since July 2009 the Company’s shares have been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, we have also been part of Enea Group since 2015. The Company’s financial results and hard coal extraction efficiency distinguish it from other organisations in the industry. We have been implementing the Smart Mine programme for years. The Company boasts solutions based on state-of-the-art technologies, which are unique in Poland’s underground mining sector, and is still searching for ways to improve not only the efficiency of work but, most importantly, employees’ safety – our top priority.
We are one of the largest employers in the region. The Bogdanka team and the personnel of the companies cooperating with us, together with their families, constitute a community of over 20,000 people who are connected to the mine. We support local initiatives in areas of culture, science and education, as well as those aimed at constructing communal infrastructure, granting financial support to local health care and sports teams, promoting healthy lifestyle, and responding to other needs of the local community.
We care for the environment and its reserves. The entire infrastructure of the mine and the Puchaczów V, Stręczyn, and Ostrów mining areas are surrounded by protected land. The Polesie National Park and the Łęczna Lake District Landscape Park are situated in close vicinity. Environmental monitoring conducted for more than 30 years has given us an understanding of most of the mechanisms whereby our mining operations affect the condition of the environment. Post-industrial waste is managed by authorised entities, which either further use or neutralize it. We put great emphasis on economic use of mine water. Bogdanka aims at maintaining the current level of ground water. We act in accordance with the rules of sustainable development, which was given such significance in Poland’s environmental policy – its purpose is preserving natural resources for the generations to follow.
