PGE Dystrybucja S.A. is a Polish Distribution System Operator supplying electric energy to over 5.5 million end users.
The enterprise operates in the eastern and central parts of Poland (approximately 40% of the country). Energy distribution to the end users is supervised by seven company branches which, together with the Lublin headquarters, provide employment to over 10 thousand workers.
The company pursues the realization of PGE Corporate Group’s objectives through ensuring a secure and reliable energy supply. The security and reliability of the supply is determined in particular by the reliability of the operation of electricity networks.
Throughout the years, the company has been building positive relationships with the local communities. Investments are realized in accordance with the local demand and serve the economic and social development of Polish regions. In 2019 investment outlays reached 2.2 billion PLN. Every two years, each branch of the enterprise hosts an Energetic Forum addressed to the local government officials. The meetings are aimed at fostering positive partnership relationships with local community representatives.
One of the company’s main priorities is to reduce the negative environmental impact of the energy infrastructure. For that purpose, PGE Dystrybucja S.A. adopts the newest technical solutions and invests in the development of its own innovations.
For many years, PGE Dystrybucja S.A. has been taking care of birds – especially the species most exposed to electric shock due to contact with high-voltage power lines. Special care is given to storks for which power engineers build safe, metal platforms on poles above the power lines and relocate their nests there. Over 25 thousand of such platforms have been built across the company’s area of activity to date.
In the year 2000 in the Zamość region, PGE Dystrybucja S.A. launched a programme called "Forests Full of Energy" during which employees together with school pupils, scouts, representatives of the local communities and local authorities join forces to plant young trees. Thus far, over 600 thousand trees have been planted.
The company pays particular attention to educating the youngest in terms of using electricity safely. Therefore, it developed an educational programme addressed to children called “Safe Electric Energy”. The young people may visit dispatching centres in the company’s branches and meet professional educators, whereas power engineers reach younger kids in schools and kindergartens as well. In the course of the “energetic lessons” children learn about the necessary safety precautions and responsible behaviour in the vicinity of electrical devices.
Moreover, the employee volunteer programme entitled “We Help” has been gaining significant response among the workers of PGE Dystrybucja S.A. For the 6 years of the programme the volunteering power engineers realized 80 projects aimed to aid the local communities. They provided help in children’s homes, nursing homes, care centres for people with disabilities, as well as in schools and kindergartens. Everywhere they appeared, they delivered tangible results of their activity, leaving loads of positive energy along the way.
